Privacy Policy
Effective November 8, 2026
Pipa is an app for controlling your Mac from your iPhone or iPad. It has two parts: the Pipa app on iPhone and iPad, and the Pipa Host app on the Mac. Both are made by Lucas Rodrigues, an individual developer ("we" on this page).
Summary
- We don't collect any of your data. Pipa has no account, login, ads, analytics or tracking, and it sends nothing to servers of ours.
- Your screen image, sound, keyboard, mouse, copied text and the files you send go straight between your iPhone or iPad and your Mac, encrypted (TLS 1.3), and never pass through us.
- Whatever is stored stays on your devices, and you can delete it whenever you want.
What stays on your iPhone and iPad
- The list of Macs you paired with or used: name, network address and last-used date, plus your settings.
- To wake your Mac over the network: the hardware (MAC) address of the Mac's network card and its IP address, which the Mac itself reports on each connection.
- This device's key, created in the Secure Enclave: it never leaves the chip, not even in backups.
- The public key of each paired Mac, to check it's really that Mac on every connection.
Deleting the app deletes all of this. You can also forget a Mac in the app's Settings.
What stays on your Mac
In your user's ~/.remote-control folder, readable only by you:
- the Mac's key, which your iPhone checks on every connection;
- the list of paired devices, with the name each one reported and the access you approved;
- technical logs for troubleshooting (times, network and video timings, counters). They never store the screen image, sound, keystrokes, text or passwords, and anything older than 14 days is deleted.
Files you send from your iPhone go to the folder you choose in Pipa Host (by default, "Pipa" in Downloads). To delete everything, quit Pipa Host, delete the app and the ~/.remote-control folder.
Network and third-party services
- On your home network, your iPhone and your Mac talk directly.
- If you use Tailscale to reach your Mac away from home, the connection goes through your private Tailscale network, which has its own privacy policy.
- To wake your Mac, your iPhone (or another Mac of yours that is awake) sends a packet on your local network. That packet only carries the Mac's hardware address.
Permissions
- Local Network (iPhone, iPad and Mac): find your Mac on the network and connect to it.
- Camera (iPhone and iPad): scan the pairing QR code your Mac shows. The image is not stored.
- Screen Recording and Accessibility (Mac): send the Mac's screen and sound to the device you paired, and let its touch and keyboard act on the Mac.
